Sixth Grade Science and Math
Welcome to Mrs. Calvert's 6th grade Science and Math Home Page. We are looking forward to an exciting year at Casa Blanca Middle School! The major focus of the sixth grade studies for this year will include the following curriculum:
Science
The major units of study are: the Scientific Method; used to learn the skills
necessary to observe, classify, measure, infer, and predict an expected result.
Students will design, conduct and communicate the results of their own scientific
investigations. A unit on Living Things that will include a study of the interactions
and energy flow within ecosystems. A unit study of The Earth's structure and the processes
that change it such as weather and climate. Finally, we will study a unit on magnetism, electricity,
circuits and the properties of both.
Math
Sixth grade math involves the study of such concepts as decimals, percents equivalent
fractions, area and perimeter, logic problems, metric measurement, and number sentences
with algebra, and geometric properties. Computation will involve double digit
multiplication as well as long division.
The students will help to create and maintain the class web pages so visit us frequently to see what they have done.
